The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Acquires Cyrus Works

Three Jamal Cyrus Pieces Join the Permanent Collection
We are pleased to announce that  the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (MAMFW) has acquired three works by Jamal Cyrus through their "Focus" exhibition initiative: Blue Alluvial Glue 2 (Line) (2022), Blue Alluvial Glue 1 (Shape) (2022), and Horn Beam Effigy (2022). The works will join their permanent collection following the closing of Cyrus' solo show Jamal Cyrus: Focus.

For the exhibition Jamal Cyrus: Focusorganized by MAMFW associate curator Alison Hearst, the artist created new works that explore the region's sonic heritage, especially the life and work of multi-instrumentalist Julius Hemphill. In this work, Cyrus draws on the relationship between land and the musical cultures born from it, a connection that stems from the concept of “alluvial soil,” a phrase coined by William Ferris in the book Blues from the Delta.
