celebrating 30 years
"30 years ago I acted on an idea that had been percolating for 3 years or so. In 1986, I was a young geologist, transferred to Houston, lucky to have a job when so many others didn’t. I said 'I’m going to like this place if it kills me’, and what I found here in Houston was an extraordinary contemporary art scene which I immediately dove into. It was the arts that saved me and inspired me. I volunteered at Channel 8, The Art League and and visited galleries every Saturday, dragging my friends along. I bought my first work of art (Lucas Johnson from Betty Moody). I started meeting artists whose work I was intrigued by who didn’t have representation…. so, in 1990, I opened Inman Gallery, inside another gallery, in a 13 x 13’ space, to expand upon my love of sharing art with friends and to provide a platform for the artists I had met.”
